Do You Have a Family New Year's Eve Tradition?

Share your stories with us!

While polling a couple of local residents, they play board games and cards to pass the time before the ball drops on TV in Times Square. Others enjoy a night out on the town.

What's your favorite tradition? Who knows, if you have a unique tradition, someone may read about it and think, that would be a fun thing to do for their family and/or friends.

Do you go outside at midnight and bang the pots and pans together and yell "Happy New Years"? I'm not a loud person, but I have done this in the past and felt a bond with my neighbors who do the same thing. Is this a Northern Tradition?

We look forward to hearing what you like to do on New Year's Eve.

What’s Your Favorite Christmas Memory in New Bern?

Is your favorite Christmas memory eating your Mother’s or Grandmother’s cookies? Or is your favorite Christmas dinner with your family or friends? Do you carry on the tradition with your loved ones?
What do people eat in the South for Christmas? Being raised in Western NY, we had Roast Beef, Yorkshire pudding, mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls, and apple pies.
Do you cut your own tree at a tree farm? Do you purchase your tree from certain charitable groups like the New Bern Civitan Club? Or do you prefer an artificial tree so you don’t step on pine needles?
Do you go to Church on Christmas Eve or Day? What services are your favorite?
We want to hear about your family traditions! Please feel free to comment below or send us an email.
Thanks!

First Time Visiting New Bern, NC

I’d like to keep this blog going so; I’ll be the first to take the “leap” and share a memory of my first visit to New Bern in 2005!
I received orders to transfer to Naval Hospital Cherry Point and made reservations to stay at the New Bern KOA while house hunting. Traveling with my dog, it was the only place in New Bern (besides the Sheraton) that I knew was pet friendly. The cost of staying in a cute, clean, and comfortable “Kamping Kabin” was inexpensive and relaxing!
I enjoyed the friendly staff and my stay at the New Bern KOA. It was a perfect place to help me during the transition from Washington, DC to Cherry Point, NC.

Be the FIRST to Share Your Memories of New Bern!

Since this blog was created (yesterday) and posted to the Internet (last night). I’ve heard from friends who mentioned they recall special memories growing up and visiting a certain place that no longer exists. They don’t have any pictures to capture their memories.
No problem! If you have fond memories of visiting a special place, but it’s no longer there or the business name has changed, please feel free to send your recollections anyway! Or take a picture of the current building or empty lot of where something used to be.
The goal is to bring our community together and share special moments. Who knows, someone may write about an old business from years past and another viewer may have a photo of it!
Together, we can create a big picture of how New Bern was then and how New Bern is Now!
Don't be shy, be the FIRST to submit your Memories!
Thank you for your interest in creating “Memories of New Bern”! Please send your memories via email. Feel free to give us a call at 252-638-6858 if you have any questions!
Don’t forget to comment below if you like this blog or have any suggestions on how to improve it.
